The year is 2049, and the world has outlived the order that once defined it. The India-Pakistan nuclear exchange of 2035 didn’t just decimate the subcontinent—it shattered the fragile illusion of global stability. The resulting Great Blackout crippled modern infrastructure, wiping out decades of technological progress in an instant. The nuclear winter that followed pushed food systems to the brink, leaving entire nations to starve, riot, or collapse outright.
In the ashes of the old world, new powers have emerged — not as sovereign nations in the traditional sense, but as the entities that still have the means to enforce their will. The United States remains, though more out of habit than genuine authority, with megacorporations and private military forces filling the gaps left by a faltering government. Europe is a patchwork of alliances and splinter states, held together by little more than mutual distrust. China has become a state-capitalist monolith, tightening its grip over the remnants of the global economy. Tactical nuclear victories and hybrid warfare have kept Moscow relevant, but its influence is a shadow of what it once was. And Japan, having abandoned its postwar pacifism, now fields nuclear weapons and autonomous security forces under the careful guidance of its corporate titans.
The lines between war, business, and governance have blurred beyond recognition. Treaties are transactional, alliances shift with the tides, and diplomacy is often just a prelude to violence. In a world where resources are scarce and trust is scarcer, survival is not guaranteed—it is negotiated, bought, or taken by force.
This is Model 2049: a simulation of power in a world that no longer pretends to follow the rules.
